Hromnice: Natural Monument, Churches and Historic Farmsteads

Zámecký statek Býkov is a listed large farmstead in the rural Baroque style. The buildings of the Býkov farm complex enclose an extensive rectangular courtyard. Zámecký statek Býkov was built in 1703 by Cistercians with the significant involvement of the abbot of Plasy Monastery, Evžen Tyttl. The farmstead thus combines a clearly recognisable Baroque courtyard complex with a specific year of construction and the history of the Cistercian order.

The Chapel of St Catherine in Nynice was built between 1696 and 1701. The Church of St George in Hromnice has Gothic origins and was completely remodelled in Baroque Gothic style from 1741 to 1744. The gates in its enclosing wall were added in 1749 under Abbot Silvestr Hetzer. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Hromnice also has Gothic origins and features significant Gothic frescoes in the presbytery. In the Baroque period, it was extended by the Plasy abbot Silvestr Hetzer.

Nynice has a spacious, regularly circular village square lined with predominantly masonry farmsteads featuring gates and gables; the square is dominated by a large Baroque chapel. Nynice is a meaningful example of high medieval rural urban planning. The buildings mentioned therefore reveal different periods: the construction of the Chapel of St Catherine, Gothic origins, Baroque remodelling and the later addition of the gates in Hromnice.

HROMFEST is a recurring public music festival in V Kolnách in Hromnice. The public Masopust celebration in Planá and Nynice will take place on 14 February 2026. The traditional procession begins at 10 a.m. in Nynice and ends from 6 p.m. at the Chotiná Cultural Centre with a dance evening featuring the band Žužlan from Lužany. The fixed date and the separately timed beginning and conclusion make the daily schedule of this event comprehensible through specific times.

SportAreál Žichlice is a public recreational sports centre with a multipurpose artificial-turf court for tennis, volleyball, foot tennis, basketball and small-sided football. The sports listed differ significantly from one another, ranging from racket sports and ball sports to small-sided football. Thus, alongside the natural and cultural sites, there is also a clearly defined sporting offering in the vicinity of Hromnice.
