Trails and Landscape

The Vlčí jámy educational trail is an easy 3.5 km circular route from the village square in Petrovice via Vojetice and back.

The “Rýžování zlata a putování po Petrovicku a Regenu” educational trail is an easy 7 km circular route from the village square in Petrovice via Chamutice, Kojšice and Jiřičná back to Petrovice.

The “Po stopách středověkého dolování zlata” educational trail is a 17 km circular route starting and ending in Petrovice u Sušice. It is signposted and has five information boards.

The Farmářská stezka trail runs largely through the picturesque landscape of the Kochánov Nature Park and offers views of the surrounding Šumava hills. It also passes preserved and well-maintained examples of folk and farm architecture.

Culture and History

The Kostel sv. Petra a Pavla church dates from the 13th century and has a Romanesque tower with battlements and a curtain wall.

The “Po stopách středověkého dolování zlata” educational trail covers the history of gold mining in the Petrovice area. The “Rýžování zlata a putování po Petrovicku a Regenu” educational trail provides information about gold panning, which was typical of this area.

Various wooden sculptures stand along the Vlčí jámy educational trail, created during the traditional annual chainsaw carving event in Petrovice. The Vlčí jámy are wolf traps from the 18th and 19th centuries, approximately four metres deep and built from dry-stacked stone from the forest.

Today, only the core mound, ramparts and ditches remain of Hrad pod Hrnčířem castle; the castle was a transitional type and was built without mortar. Hrad pod Hrnčířem is freely accessible.

The Tamíř Mill, also known as Damarsch, is a small water mill with a Baroque gable on the eastern edge of Petrovice u Sušice.

Zámek Kněžice was converted from a former ecclesiastical seat into a farmyard in 1589. In 1906, Leopold Bauer extensively remodelled it in the Art Nouveau style. Classical music concerts are held at Zámek Kněžice.

Zámek Jiřičná is accessible only to guests of the Tvrz Hrnčíř accommodation.

Water and Leisure

Koupák Petrovice has a large pool and a children’s paddling pool. It offers refreshments, a covered garden area, a football pitch, a fire pit and swings, as well as a natural swimming area with a grassy shore and concrete bottom.
