History and Local Landmarks

The first written record of Vlkanov dates back to 1361. Before the Hussite Wars, the village belonged to the Pivoň Monastery estate, and since 1537 it has been part of the Poběžovice estate.

A remarkable cross can be visited directly in Vlkanov. The Vlkanov Rasovna is a well-known local historical landmark mentioned in the works of the Catholic priest and writer Jindřich Šimon Baar. In the mid-19th century, the local hyclík (barber) was considered a healer; people from the surrounding area sought him out.

Landscape

The larger eastern part of the Vlkanov area extends along the flat depression of the Vlkanovský potok and is predominantly used for farming. The wooded slopes of the Český les extend into the western part of Vlkanov’s cadastral territory.

Škarmanka is a mountain in the vicinity of Vlkanov. The mountains Železný vrch, Čerchov and Jacklberg lie in the wider regional area.

On the Way and Locally

The 35-kilometre-long Cycle Route 2141 passes through Vlkanov between Šitboř and Otov and is part of the Bavarian-Czech Friendship Trail.

In 2026, the municipality of Vlkanov invited the general public to traditional Easter shooting competitions with air rifles.
