Chrastavice combines a historically influenced townscape with cultural monuments and marked trails into the surrounding area, both nearby and farther afield.
Culture and townscape
The historic centre of Chrastavice around the village square, with its water basin, chapel and preserved farmsteads dating from the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries, forms an important urban composition space. The Neo-Romanesque Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity shapes the public space of the village square and is of both sacred and architectural significance.
A wayside cross, also known as a reconciliation cross, stands on a landscaped embankment in the centre; it is visible from the main road between Domažlice and Milavče. An original clock mechanism was installed in the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity in 1897; it ran continuously until 2020 and was then replaced by an electric clock mechanism.
History and orientation
The Chrastavice burial mound field is registered as an immovable cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 18793/4-4033. It is divided into three groups near forest paths; a location marker and an information board are situated on the road to Milavče.
The book “Chrastavice – Pohledy do historie obce” was published in 2024 and is available from the Municipality of Chrastavice.
Landscape in the surrounding area
The mountains Spálený vrch, Čerchov and Škarmanka are located in the vicinity of Chrastavice. The mountain Dreiwappen lies in the wider regional surroundings of Chrastavice.
Trails, viewpoints and events
The 34-kilometre M1 (1411) route runs from Domažlice via Chrastavice, Milavče, Hradiště, Netřeb, Všepadly and the Klatovy area to Švihov.
At the junction by the burial mound field, the blue-marked hiking trail branches off south towards Chrastavice and east towards Milavče. From Chrastavice, a blue-marked trail leads approximately 800 metres to the Chrastavická vyhlídka. The Chrastavická vyhlídka is a roughly five-metre-high wooden observation tower built in spring 2012. It is freely accessible and has a rest area with an information board.
The traditional Chrastavická pouť is scheduled to take place in Chrastavice on 14–15 June 2025 and 30–31 May 2026.
