Zelezná Ruda: Hotels and Accommodation

Železná Ruda combines glassmaking and mining history with nature centres, a unique glacial lake and marked trails in the surrounding area.
Culture
At the Muzeum Šumavy Železná Ruda, the permanent exhibition focuses on rare examples of the local glassmaking industry. The museum is housed in a villa built by Krištof Abele in 1877. The permanent exhibition also includes a section on ironworking and the hammer mills of the Bohemian Forest.
The Kostel Panny Marie Pomocné z Hvězdy church in Železná Ruda offers guided tours with explanations from 1 June to 30 September, which can be arranged by telephone. The Sklářská educational trail runs through the Železná Ruda and Špičák area, with 16 stations on glassmaking in the Bohemian Forest. The wider regional area around Železná Ruda also includes the Frauenau Glass Museum and the Neunussberg castle ruins.
Nature
The Environmentální centrum Železná Ruda presents the fauna and flora of the Bohemian Forest and includes exhibitions on the geology and geomorphology of the Bohemian Forest. The glacial lake Jezero Laka is the smallest, shallowest and highest-elevation glacial lake in the Bohemian Forest.
The Pancíř mountain is located in the immediate vicinity of Železná Ruda. The surrounding area also includes the mountains Jezerní hora, Ruckwiesberg and Kühberg, as well as the Lohberg Wildlife Park in the Bavarian Forest.
Trails and orientation
From Železná Ruda, a route maintained for pedestrian traffic in winter initially follows the blue and then the red trail markers to Čertovo jezero. On the signposted cycling loop from Železná Ruda via Špičák, the chairlift to the summit of Pancíř also carries bicycles.
The Železná Ruda centrum railway station is step-free in the station building and on all platforms.
