Ivančice: Mucha, Menšík, Tower and Pekárka Nature Monument

The Renaissance building of the Alfons Mucha Memorial in Ivančice houses permanent exhibitions about Vladimír Menšík and Alfons Mucha, open year-round. The exhibition about Vladimír Menšík presents personal belongings, family photographs, documents and photographs from films in which the actor appeared. The Alfons Mucha exhibition includes, among other things, sketches for the Slav Epic, a study for a stained-glass window in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, and other graphic works. The two exhibitions thus combine biographical documents with drawings, studies and graphic works from different cultural contexts. The cultural focus therefore ranges from personal and film-related testimonies to graphic art and designs for significant buildings.

At Ivančice Tower, history, the climb and guided tours are among the specific aspects of a visit. The climb to the gallery includes 140 steps, including intermediate steps. The oldest parts of Ivančice Tower, the first two floors, date from the 13th century. From April to October, Ivančice Tower offers scheduled guided tours; groups can arrange visits outside these times through the Ivančice Cultural and Information Centre. For planning purposes, visitors therefore have both a seasonal tour schedule and a fixed number of steps to consider.

In Řeznovice, a district of Ivančice, stands the preserved Romanesque church, regarded as an important monument of European significance. The Romanesque church building displays clear features comparable to those of buildings in northern Italy’s Lombardy region from the 11th and 12th centuries. The church thus adds its own architectural-historical focus to this district of Ivančice.

The themed Templářská cycling circuit is 39 kilometres long and passes through Řeznovice, Ivančice, Alexovice and Letkovice. The 3.2-kilometre cycle path from Oslavany to Ivančice starts in Oslavany and connects in Ivančice to Na Volvách Street. Both routes are clearly defined by their length, named locations and respective course. The Templářská route is designed as a circuit, while the cycle path from Oslavany connects at a specific point in Ivančice.

Pekárka is a protected nature monument in Ivančice, in the cadastral area of Alexovice. It protects rock, grass and herb communities with scattered woody vegetation on conglomerate slopes, as well as the occurrence of the European-protected Moravian pink (Dianthus moravicus). Pekárka comprises rocks made of Rokytná conglomerates of Permo-Carboniferous age. Thus, both the rock formations and the grass and herb communities associated with them are central to this natural site. Pekárka has unrestricted access; by car, the site can be reached to within approximately 250 metres.
