Podbřežice combines cultural monuments in the village with a geotope in the nearby surroundings – even when you book a hotel.

Culture and history

The Neo-Gothic Church of St Peter and Paul in Podbřežice was consecrated on 14 June 1907. The church houses a bell cast in Olomouc in 1603 by Zachariáš Milner. A tombstone of the painter Ondřej from 1599 is also located there today. It was moved from the original church to the cemetery and is now located in the Church of St Peter and Paul in Podbřežice.

The cast-iron cross of Podbřežice is also part of the village’s historic character. It was made in 1834 at the Blansko ironworks and stands at the former crossroads of the road to Komořany. In 2012, the cross was restored under the supervision of the Brno office of the National Heritage Institute.

The parish acquired the cast-iron statue of St John of Nepomuk in 1885; it now stands in front of the church. In the park on the village square of Podbřežice, there is also the war memorial “Pomník Obětem 1. a 2. světové války” in front of the church.

Nature

The “Mechovkový útes” geotope lies 1.5 km south of Podbřežice. It belongs to the small-scale protected area “Stepní stráně u Komořan” and is a geotourism attraction as well as an excursion site.

Cycling

The cycling route section between Komořany and Podbřežice is designated as a 900 m-long section from 2024.
