Chabařovice: Hotels and accommodations
Chabařovice combines an impressive urban history with a landscape shaped by the transformation of the brown coal mining industry. Historic buildings, Lake Milada and the Vyklická cesta bring together the town’s diverse facets in close proximity.
Culture and history
The Stará radnice is an architecturally interesting building dating from 1609 and separates Chabařovice’s two squares. During its renovation in the mid-1990s, the original tower clock and its hand-wound mechanism were also preserved.
The Muzeum města Chabařovice presents an exhibition on the history of Chabařovice from its beginnings through the Second World War. It also covers the history of the villages that had to make way for brown coal mining. The museum is currently open to the public by appointment.
The “Památník bitvy na běhání” monument commemorates the 1426 battle in which the Hussite army led by Prokop Holý fought against a numerically superior crusader army.
The “Kostel narození Panny Marie” church stands in the centre of one of Chabařovice’s squares. The first written record of its existence dates from 1352; construction of the present church began from scratch in 1699. The “Kostelík sv. Jana Křtitele” church, by contrast, was built in 1822 on the site of a demolished chapel. Its grotto has survived to this day, and from there you can enjoy a panorama of Chabařovice with the Ore Mountains in the background.
A traditional event is the Chabařovická pouť, which regularly takes place on the third weekend in May.
Lake Milada and trails
Lake Milada is a body of water created by flooding the remaining pit of the Chabařovice–Milada open-cast mine. The lake and its surroundings were opened to the public in 2015. The lake area currently offers opportunities particularly for running, cycling and water sports.
The Vyklická cesta connects Chabařovice with Lake Milada. From this trail, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the lake and a wide panorama.
