Vadkovice: Hotels and accommodations

Vadkovice is located in the Nádrž vodního díla Nechranice bird protection area. The protected area safeguards populations of bean geese (Anser fabalis) and wintering waterfowl.

Nature and landscape

Vadkovice is situated on a rise that gradually ascends southward toward the Polácké vrchy and slopes down northward and westward to the Nechranice Reservoir, built on the Ohře River. The reservoir lies on a migratory route used by waterfowl from Northern Europe and is usually completely ice-free in winter.

The Vadkovický jíran koňský is also part of the local landscape: The tree was designated a memorial tree in 1997 and was 175 years old at that time.

History

The first documented mention of Vadkovice dates from April 7, 1295. In the 1860s, fires frequently broke out in the village. The construction of the Nechranice waterworks, which began in January 1961, brought numerous changes to Vadkovice.

In the mid-1980s, a recreational facility with 34 holiday homes was built after old agricultural buildings were demolished; each stood on a 400 m² plot.

Archaeological traces

The Vadkovice chamber grave contained an unusual fitting from a sword scabbard. In 1984, a severely damaged chamber grave of the Bylany culture was discovered in the Vadkovice area. A Corded Ware culture burial ground known as Vikletice was also located in a triangle between Vikletice, Vadkovice, and Drahonice.

Water and cycle paths

In the vicinity of Vadkovice, the Nechranice Reservoir offers yachting, windsurfing, kitesurfing, swimming, and fishing. Marked cycle paths from Chomutov, Kadaň, and Žatec lead to the dam in the reservoir's vicinity.

The “Vikletice–Vadkovice–Poláky–Vikletice” cycle route is described as a short circular route with views of the Nechranice Reservoir and is designated as a short circular route.
