History and cultural heritage

Strupčice was first mentioned in writing in 1352. The Church of Saint Wenceslas dates back to the 14th century and was rebuilt in 1780.

Archaeological research shows that the area around Strupčice was already settled more than 4,000 years ago. A state-protected sandstone statue of Johann Vetter from 1723, originally from the abandoned municipality of Tušimice, stands in a park by the stream behind the church. The grounds of the church in Strupčice are also home to a state-protected, roughly hewn stone cross from the 16th century, originally from Vrchnice.

Landscape

The wooden Maják observation tower stands on a former spoil heap about 0.5 km northeast of Strupčice. Four painted maps on the observation tower compare today's panorama with the landscape before coal mining and the vanished villages below the Ore Mountains.

At the western edge of Strupčice, an approximately 10 m-high mining face remains accessible near the preserved brickworks chimneys.

Activities

The Chomutovsko mobile application offers two child-friendly versions of the existing educational trail in Strupčice: one for younger children and one for older schoolchildren. The Strupčice educational trail also offers printable worksheets for children aged 7 to 11 and for people aged 11 and over.

The Chomutov–Strupčice cycle path runs about 500 m from the Maják viewpoint. The Sportovní areál Strupčice sports complex offers a swimming pool, mini-golf, beach volleyball courts and a campsite.

Events

Market and fair events in Strupčice include the traditional Garlic Festival and the St. Wenceslas Pilgrimage.

At the Garlic Festival, the refreshment stalls served traditional garlic specialties, including garlic soup, potato pancakes, garlic strudel, koláčky and spreads.
