Cítoliby: Hotels and accommodation

Cítoliby combines a historic town centre with distinctive religious and secular buildings, as well as paths leading to Bažantnice. This brings architectural history, local history and landscape elements together within a small area.

Culture and local history

In the centre, Cítoliby preserves a regular layout that has existed for seven centuries. The market square is dominated by Cítoliby Chateau, which forms part of the market square of the market town. Together with the Church of St James the Greater, the chateau forms a deliberately coordinated urban composition.

The Church of St James the Greater is a Gothic, single-nave building. The market square is also home to the Trinity Column, created in 1680 and considered the oldest freestanding sculpture in Cítoliby. The local sculptural ensemble includes Saint Barbara, Saint Leonard and Saint Procopius.

The town’s musical history is also connected with the chateau: Jan Janoušek was the first director of the Cítoliby Chateau Orchestra. Dělnický dům was built as a workers’ house between 1920 and 1923 and became a centre of local social life.

On the outskirts of Cítoliby, on the road to Brloh, stands a niche chapel dedicated to Saint Apollonia.

Paths and information

The Cítoliby educational trail leads from the municipal office via Tyršovo náměstí and the niche chapel on Na Plevně Street to Bažantnice and a cross. In addition, the Smolnický potok educational trail continues as far as Cítoliby.

Two additional information panels in Cítoliby introduce visitors to the history and monuments of the market town.

Bažantnice

Bažantnice is a recreational area on the eastern outskirts of Cítoliby. A Baroque bridge is located on the dam of the pond in Bažantnice.
