Louny District: Hotels and accommodations

Panenský Týnec is located in the Džbán Nature Park. The monastery complex there is a protected cultural monument and is listed in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.

Nature

The landscape around Panenský Týnec includes forests, steep slopes, ridges, rocks, streams, ponds, fields and hop gardens, with views towards the Central Bohemian Uplands. Steppes can be found on Raná and on the slopes of nearby volcanic hills. The Úpatím Rané educational trail is 2 km long, designed as a walking route and easy.

Culture and history

The UNESCO site “Žatec and the Landscape of Saaz Hops” includes rural hop fields and the villages of Stekník and Trnovany, as well as the historic town centre of Žatec. Above the historic hop fields that are still in use, Stekník Chateau is a distinctive landmark. It is a significant Rococo building with an Italian terraced garden.

Stekník Chateau offers four sightseeing tours; one route ends at the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. In the cellar, there is a hop-related exhibition as well as a separate experience in the Italian terraced garden.

Nový Hrad was built between 1465 and 1474 above Jimlín and Zeměchy, on the route between Louny and Žatec. The castle is open to visitors and offers several sightseeing tours. Březno was inhabited almost continuously from 5000 BC to the 10th century AD.

Museums and sightseeing

The Archeoskanzen Březno open-air museum is located at an important archaeological site and displays reconstructions from the Neolithic, Iron Age, Migration Period and Early Slavic periods. Archaeological experiments and prehistoric activities are offered there for visitors.

The Chrám Chmele a Piva in Žatec is located in a former hop warehouse and former kiln, which served their original purpose for one hundred years from 1890 onwards. A guided tour leads through a labyrinth between hop bales and into a sulphur chamber.

The Krásný Dvůr chateau park can be visited independently and without a guide all year round. Advance reservations are required for interior tours. The park and chateau courtyard are accessible to wheelchair users.

Routes and arrival

Those travelling in Louny District may wish to book a hotel.

Krásný Dvůr can be reached by seasonal trains of the Doupovské dráhy railway; the stop is approximately a 20-minute walk from the chateau. Buses from Podbořany, Žatec and Chomutov serve Krásný Dvůr, with the stop approximately a 15-minute walk from the chateau. The Krásný Dvůr car park is about 30 metres from the chateau.

Archeoskanzen Březno is located on a yellow-marked hiking trail and Cycle Route 6. Stekník Chateau lies on Cycle Route 6, which runs from Žatec via Stekník towards Hradiště, Strkovice, Mradice, Skupice and Březno u Postoloprt. The Ohře Cycle Route connects numerous attractions in the Dolní Poohří region.
