Žim: Hotels and Accommodation

Žim is a medieval, originally Slavic village on an important historic road that crosses the Central Bohemian Uplands. A historic route led through Žim across the part of the Central Bohemian Uplands near Milešov and onward towards Velemín and Lovosice. Railway line 097 between Lovosice and Teplice v Čechách runs through the village.

History and Culture

The first documented mention of Žim is found in papal tithing records from 1352 to 1391. The parish Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross in Žim has been documented since 1357. It was originally built in the Gothic style and remodelled in the Renaissance style in the 16th century; its nave was extended in 1699. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is also located in Záhoří.

Nature and Landscape

The southern two thirds of the Žim area lie within the protection zone of the supra-regional biocorridor “Stříbrný roh – Milešovka”. The supra-regional Milešovka biocentre, number 17, largely follows the southern boundary of Žim; only small extensions reach into the area.

The open landscape around Žim can be reached via field and forest paths that connect to the settled part of the municipality. Marked cycling route 3009 runs through Žim and connects with cycling route 3091 to the east near Radejčín.

Water

At Záhořský rybník in Žim-Záhoří, people without permanent residence are allowed to fish seasonally from 1 March to 31 December. The area around the Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Záhoří was landscaped along a newly reconstructed road; access to the water was also reinforced with gravel.

At Záhořský rybník in Žim-Záhoří, there are places where visitors can sit on stones by a spring and look out over the Central Bohemian Uplands. Záhořský rybník in Žim-Záhoří was used for swimming on hot summer days.
