Hostomice Nad Bílinou: Hotels and accommodation

Hostomice lies at the transition between the Ore Mountains and Husův vrch. At the same time, the town is considered the gateway to the Central Bohemian Uplands.

Nature

Husův vrch is a Tertiary neovolcanic hill composed of olivine nephelinite and pyroclastics above the Bílina Valley. The Husův vrch geological locality lies on the southern slope of the hill of the same name, on the eastern edge of Hostomice.

History

The first written mention of Hostomice dates from 1225, when the settlement was donated to a convent of the Knights of the Cross. During the rapid industrialisation in the second half of the 19th century, glassworks were established in Hostomice. During the industrial development of Hostomice, coal was mined in several open-cast mines in the surrounding area. As part of the same industrial development, a railway line was built connecting Bílina and Ústí nad Labem.

Around the turn of the 20th century, a large settlement and a late Bronze Age hoard were discovered in Hostomice. Finds from the late Bronze Age included axes, a sword, arrowheads, bracelets, needles and decorated buttons. Fossil remains were also found during mining and brickmaking work in Hostomice, including massive tusks of mastodons, elephants of the genus Dinotherium, as well as remains of monkeys and bats.

Culture

The building “Bývalá sokolovna Hostomice nad Bílinou” was opened in 1922 and was frequently used by the theatre section of the local unit, founded in 1907. It has a hall with a gallery and stage, but is currently out of operation.

Hiking

The hiking route begins at the railway station, crosses the Bílina on a road and via a small bridge, and leads to the foot of Husův vrch.

On 30 April 2026, the traditional event “Pálení čarodějnic na Biklrose” will take place in Biklros.
