Horni Habartice: Hotels and accommodations

Horní Habartice lies in a flat valley bottom along the Bystrá stream. The settlement is scattered.

Landscape

The municipality lies at an altitude of approximately 225 to 260 meters and is gently undulating and predominantly agricultural in character. It is bordered by forests on its western and eastern sides. The entire municipality also lies on the edge of the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area.

History

The first written mention of Horní Habartice dates from 1281. The medieval and modern-era town center is designated as an area with archaeological finds; archaeological finds have been documented there or are reasonably expected to be present.

Culture

A wooden crucifix approximately five meters high was moved to the eastern side of the road next to the municipal office in Horní Habartice. Its arms end in trefoil shapes, the protective roof is made of copper sheeting, and beneath it is a naturalistically carved wooden figure of Christ. Another large wooden cross stands by house No. 203 along the road. It was erected by the farming couple Johann Michael and Terezie Philippová from house No. 134.

On a hill stands the single-nave, towerless Church of Saint John the Baptist. It can easily be overlooked when passing through the village. The building was erected in 1787, consecrated on July 2, 1787, and extended westward in the 19th century. Neo-Gothic furnishings from the time of this extension have been preserved.

The church contains a carved statue of the Bound Christ. It is 1.2 meters high and dates from 1745. According to tradition, Georg Hauptmann carried the statue now located there from Šumava near the Bavarian border to Horní Habartice on his back. Historically, processions from the nearby and more distant surroundings traveled to Horní Habartice for ceremonies dedicated to the Bound Jesus. Mass is celebrated in the church at 4:30 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of every month.

Routes and connections

The green Horní Habartice–Děčín hiking trail runs through the administrative territory of Horní Habartice. It connects the municipality with attractive tourist destinations in the surrounding area.

Road III/26223 connects Horní Habartice with Benešov nad Ploučnicí, Dolní Habartice, and Markvartice. In Markvartice, it joins road I/13 toward Nový Bor and Liberec. The Benešov nad Ploučnicí (Děčín)–Česká Kamenice (Rybniště) railway line also runs through the municipality; the nearest railway stops are in Markvartice and Dolní Habartice.
