Koštice: Hotels and Accommodation
Koštice can be explored through its sacred architecture, milling history, paths along the Ohře, and natural areas. The specific locations lead from the village square past historic sites to the wetlands near Koštice.
Culture and Local History
The Parish Church of Saint Anthony of Padua in Koštice is a late Baroque sacred building dating from 1752 and stands in the middle of the village square. The church is registered as an immovable cultural monument and is classified as an example of 18th-century Baroque architecture. The lower village square is also home to a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1729.
The local history also includes the neo-Gothic-Baroque Chapel Kaplička u přívozu and the Zvonička u přívozu. The chapel was built in 1846 by the Zinke family from house no. 14. The Zvonička u přívozu was built in January 2014 in memory of the mass tragedy of 1764, in which people drowned while crossing the river on their way back from a church service.
Milling History and the Present
Ortův Mlýn is considered the first automatic mill in Bohemia and is now a hydroelectric power station. The present site on the Ohře is documented in a written reference from 1574. The Ortův Mlýn power station formerly supplied electricity to the mill, the street lighting throughout Koštice, and households.
A more recent artistic addition is the modern abstract sculpture Život – Letnice. The woodcarver Jan Švadlenka created it in 2013 from a dead tree.
Paths Along the Ohře
The short Koštice–Křesín educational trail was created in 2012. It begins at the church in Koštice, leads across the lower village square and along the Ohře through Želevice and the wetlands near Koštice, and ends in Křesín.
For pedestrians and cyclists, Lávka svobody is a simple bridge over a small millrace. Karfíkův dvůr offers bicycle rentals with tourist equipment, including child seats and bicycle trailers.
Natural Area
The Koštice Natural Monument is home to the largest population in terms of number of individuals of black-spiked sedge (Carex melanostachya) in Bohemia. Subhalophytic plant communities occur there on waterlogged and loosened sites in flooded meadows.
