Vrbno Nad Lesy: Hotels and Accommodations

Vrbno nad Lesy reaches far back into history: the village was first mentioned in writing in 1143. Also in 1143, Prince Vladislav donated Vrbno to Strahov Monastery. In the Middle Ages, Vrbno was divided among St. George's Convent, the Premonstratensians from Strahov, and the abbess of Panenský Týnec.

Buildings in the Village Center

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is an Early Gothic church dating from before 1321. It has a single nave and was remodeled in the Baroque style, with a narrower presbytery; both parts have a rectangular floor plan. A prismatic tower with an onion dome is attached to its north side.

The Vrbno nad Lesy rectory is a Baroque, single-story building consisting of two rectangular wings arranged at right angles to each other; the main wing faces the square. The Baroque rectory complex also includes an outbuilding, a gate, and an enclosing wall with another gate. It defines the center of Vrbno nad Lesy and borders the northeastern side of the square. The gate has two portals: a larger portal with a vaulted round arch and a double-leaf gate, and a smaller straight entrance with a door.

Cemeteries and Memorial Sites

On a field road between Vrbno nad Lesy and Hřivčice, in the cadastral area of Hřivčice, there is a Jewish cemetery with gravestones dating from the 18th century.

The Vrbno nad Lesy cemetery is enclosed by an originally preserved perimeter wall and contains numerous old Czech gravestones. The grave of Václav Kozák is also located there; the inscription identifies him as an Olympic champion, European champion, and rower of the century. Together with Pavel Schmidt, Václav Kozák won Olympic gold in the double sculls in Rome.

Mount Boušov, Mount Oblík, Mount Pozdeňský les [Mšec], and Mount Srdov are located in the vicinity of Vrbno nad Lesy. The Hazmburk ruin is located near Vrbno nad Lesy. In the wider regional area are the Pravda Castle Ruins, Hrádek Castle Ruins, and Hradek Oltářík Castle Ruins.

In Panenský Týnec, there is a church fragment with a bell tower connected to the former monastery.

Transport

Line U40 is a daily interregional service operated by České dráhy. Vrbno nad Lesy is a stop on interregional line U40 between Slaný and Louny.
