The origins of the pilgrimage site of Mariánské Radčice are connected with the veneration of the miraculous image of Our Lady of Sorrows and date back to the 13th century.

Pilgrimage Site and Church

Abbot Benedikt Littwerich had a new Baroque church, a cloister and a parish built for the pilgrimage site; his successor Hieronymus Besnecker completed them. The foundation stone of the church was laid in 1698.

The Mariánské Radčice pilgrimage complex can be visited Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 15:00 or by prior arrangement.

Walking Tour and Cycling Route

The Radčický Circuit is a walking tour through the municipality with information boards; it begins and ends in front of the local “U Davida” inn.

One station provides information about the relocated small monuments in Mariánské Radčice and the surrounding area. The tour also includes an information board about the history of the Osek–Mariánské Radčice pilgrimage route. The final station provides information about the history and present-day situation of mining around Mariánské Radčice.

In Mariánské Radčice, Cycling Route 3073 connects to Cycling Route 25 and ends after 6.32 km in Loučná, where it connects to Cycling Route 231.

Mining History

The former Důl Koh-i-noor II brown coal mine near Mariánské Radčice operated until 2002 and produced more than 52 million tonnes of brown coal. Parts of the mine buildings have been protected as heritage monuments since 2002.
