Želenice combines a protected historic building heritage with distinctive landscape features. The former Želenice rectory, house number 27, is now classified as a state-protected monument. A quarry for the extraction of phonolite, known as Znělec in Czech, has existed on the northern slope of Želenický vrch since the last century. The church of Želenice was first mentioned in 1352 under the name Zelenycz.

Culture and History

The protected Želenice No. 43 farmstead is part of the historic village landscape. It dates from the first half of the 19th century and forms part of the historic buildings around the village square. The complex consists of two residential buildings and two farm buildings.

A four-sided wayside shrine with niches, including one containing a crucifix, is dated to 1583. Construction work on the new church in Želenice, the Church of Saint Wenceslas, took place from 1847 to 1848. The Battle of 1438 took place at the foot of Želenický vrch.

Nature

The Bílina River is the defining watercourse in the administrative area of Želenice. Along the Bílina, a relatively extensive floodplain of considerable biological importance stretches from České Zlatníky to the confluence with the Liběšický potok.

The Želenice area in the Most District belongs geographically to the Bořeň section of the Měrunická vrchovina. At 539 m, Bořeň is the highest peak of the Bořeň section of the Měrunická vrchovina. The Želenice area's location in one of the warmest and driest regions of the Czech Republic has particularly shaped the development of steppe communities.
