The Natura 2000 site EVL Kateřina is located in the planning area of Modlany. Protected landscape features include watercourses and bodies of water, along with their associated green areas. The Kateřina water body is also connected with the development of hiking tourism in the Modlany recreational area.

Culture and Architectural History

The historic center of Modlany is protected as a cultural and urban-planning asset. The single-nave Baroque Church of Saint Apollinaris was built between 1687 and 1691 on the site of an earlier medieval church and extensively rebuilt in the mid-19th century.

Smaller religious buildings with their own distinctive features can also be found in the surrounding area. The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in Věšťany has a bell in its small turret. The Chapel of Saint Procopius in Suché is a tall chapel dating from the late 19th century.

The chapel in Kvítkov dates from the 19th century and stands in the village below the main road. The projecting structure of its façade has no bell; it contains only a steel suspension.
