Přestanov: Hotels and Accommodation

Přestanov focuses on the history of the 1813 battle: the nearly 10-kilometre-long, yellow-marked hiking route to the battlefields and war memorials begins in the town and leads through the battle memorial sites. From the centre of Ústí nad Labem, it can be reached by city bus 81 to Přestanov.

History and Commemoration

Přestanov was founded as a village in the 12th century and first mentioned in writing in 1348. The medieval and modern town centre is an archaeological area with documented or reasonably expected archaeological finds. Přestanov is also part of the landscape conservation and heritage zone “Území bojiště u Přestanova, Chlumce a Varvažova”.

The memorial sites include the mass grave in Přestanov. It contains the recovered remains of almost 10,000 of the more than 20,000 soldiers who fell in the battle. The “Ruský pomník” monument commemorates the 1813 battle. It consists of a cast-iron pyramid topped by a figure of Nike, with lions at the base.

The Baroque Juchtová Chapel stands on the axis of the main battle line, where Russian artillery and infantry guard units stopped the major French attack. It is located about 500 metres northwest of Přestanov at a crossroads where the roads to Unčín and Stradov divide. The French Monument was erected next to the chapel in 1911.

Townscape and Buildings

In the centre of Přestanov stands the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua. The rectangular building has a gabled roof and a semicircular apse beneath a conical roof. Its altar features a Baroque sandstone statue of Saint Anthony dating from 1726.

Routes through Přestanov

Cycling route 3009 runs through Přestanov. It leads from Adolfov via Unčín and Chlumec southwards to Radejčín.
