The historic center of Slatina was declared a protected heritage zone in 1995 because of its 32 original structures – including barns, boundary walls, and gates typical of a Czech round village. The original stone houses stand in a flattened circle and form a circular village square.

Culture

The first written records of Slatina date back to 1056. An originally Gothic church has stood in Slatina since the end of the 12th century. After reconstruction, it was rededicated to Saint John of Nepomuk in 1746. The Renaissance tower was built in 1595 and has a stone portal on the ground floor with an inscription about the Renaissance reconstruction of the church.

Historically, Slatina was located on an important road between Litoměřice and Libochovice, known as the “Slatina Road.”

Nature

Slatina lies at the eastern foot of the Házmburk castle ruins, between the floodplains of the Podsedický potok and the Rosovka. The Vrch Hazmburk nature monument also includes areas in Slatina. In the protected Vrch Hazmburk area, which also includes Slatina, there are exposed basalt outcrops and scree slopes around the castle.

Steppe and forest-steppe habitats, as well as extensively managed orchards, account for about 60 percent of the area of the protected zone. The protected Vrch Hazmburk area associated with Slatina pod Hazmburkem preserves species of European importance, such as the grasshopper Stenobothrus eurasius and the Jersey tiger moth Euplagia quadripunctaria.
