Snědovice: Hotels and Accommodation

Snědovice lies in the valley of the Obrtka stream, in a traditionally agricultural landscape. The Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area includes the municipality of Snědovice in the Ústí nad Labem Region.

Landscape

The traditional livelihoods of the people of Snědovice included agriculture, hop growing, fruit growing, livestock farming and beekeeping. A small English-style park was laid out next to Snědovice Chateau in the first half of the 19th century. The chateau park preserves stone walls delimiting individual terraces or lawns, as well as individual surviving solitary trees in front of the chateau.

Architecture

In place of the dilapidated fortress, Jan Baltazar Clary ze Sperberbach had a new Baroque chateau built in Snědovice, completed around 1688. Snědovice Chateau is a one- and two-storey building with an inner courtyard, tall pilasters on the chateau façade, a rusticated stone gateway, and windows with triangular and segmental pediments. Today, the chateau houses a social care institution.

The Renaissance Velký mlýn mill was built in Snědovice after 1555. It preserves an art-historically valuable commemorative plaque featuring a wolf leaping from the forest as its heraldic motif and the Czech inscription “Waclaw z Quitkowa, Mandalena z Hrussova 1555”.

A Marian chapel was built in Snědovice in 1856. The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary stands in the centre of Snědovice. It has rounded corners, a round-arched entrance, and a circular window in the gable with a bell-shaped finial. The surviving cultural monuments in Snědovice also include the wooden log houses with house numbers 46 and 56, as well as the houses designated če. 7, 14 and 17, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Chapel of Saint Procopius in the municipality of Snědovice has a rectangular nave, a polygonal presbytery, a side sacristy, and a main façade extended by a risalit with a tower structure. Sukorady is a district of the municipality of Snědovice; its chateau grounds include a garden or park enclosed by a perimeter wall.

In Střížovice, a district of the municipality of Snědovice, there is a protected rural dwelling dating from 1870 in the folk architecture style. It is a well-preserved large residential building from the second half of the 19th century, with unusually rich decoration and late Classicist features of rural construction.

In the surrounding area, the municipality of Snědovice recommends the Helfenburk castle ruins as a destination for a trip, highlighting their romantic appeal and history shaped by legends. The municipality of Snědovice also recommends Ploskovice Chateau as a destination for a trip. Around 1720, Anna Maria of Tuscany from the House of Saxe-Lauenburg, wife of the Tuscan duke Gaston III and the last Medici, had a magnificent summer residence built there.

Routes

The historic Snědovická cesta route led from Mělník via Liběchov, past the present-day Hraběcí and Marian chapels, to Radouň; there, a branch turned off towards Snědovice. Snědovice is stop 13 on the family-friendly educational trail “Naučné putování loupežníka Štětky”.
