Čakovice: Hotels and Accommodations

Čakovice can be explored through several clearly defined themes: history, archaeology, vernacular architecture, as well as waterways and regional routes.

Culture and History

Čakovice is home to a chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Paul. It was built at the end of the 17th century and later renovated. The Chapel of Saints John and Paul dates from the early 19th century. In 1964, it was entered in the register of cultural monuments.

The fortress of Čakovice is first documented for the years 1535 to 1545. During the Thirty Years’ War, it was destroyed down to its foundations. A manor farm was subsequently built on the site of the former fortress.

The archaeological site in Čakovice includes a fortress and a village. The area contains evidence dating from prehistoric times through the Middle Ages and into the transition to the modern era. The built-up area of Čakovice and its immediate surroundings also contain documented or reasonably suspected archaeological finds.

Notable examples of vernacular architecture can also be found in Čakovice. These include both log houses and houses with half-timbered upper floors. A partially restored mill stands on a bend in the centre of the village. The remains of the millrace of the Čakovice mill run along the road towards Radouň.

Landscape and Waterways

The Obrtka stream flows through Čakovice; it was formerly called Chablavka. It rises near Domašice on the edge of the Vlhošť section of the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area. Near Polepy, the Obrtka flows into the Úštěcký potok from the left.

Routes and Regional Connections

A historic branch of the Snědovická cesta led from Radouň through Čakovice to Hoštka. In the wider Štětí region, there is also the family-friendly educational trail “Naučné putování loupežníka Štětky”, which presents the region’s history and nature.
