Tašov: Rocks, Forest and Historic Chapel

Tašov is an old Slavic foothill village with elongated development in a hollow at the southeastern foot of Kukla Mountain (674 m) in the central part of the Central Bohemian Uplands. The character of the village combines a clearly recognisable settlement form with the landscape of the uplands.

The Tašov area lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. The natural assets of the Tašov area include extensive woodland and a varied landscape with a structured relief. The forests and relief thus shape the landscape setting around the village.

The Tašovské skály rock group comprises 17 hard, in some places weathered phonolite massifs. The rocks of Tašovské skály are up to 15 metres high; most routes are between 5 and 10 metres long. Tašovské skály is a climbing area of local importance. The different rock dimensions and route lengths describe the specific character of this climbing area.

In the vicinity of Tašov, Dlouhý vrch offers a marked main viewpoint and three hiking trails. From the Tašov–Ovčárna signpost location, a marked cycle path runs along the foot of Dlouhý vrch and then reaches the road near Myštice.

Several examples of vernacular architecture have been preserved in the centre of Tašov. These include partly log or half-timbered two-storey houses with arcades and porches, boarded gables, and recessed arcades decorated with carvings. The architectural details are located directly in the village centre and give the buildings a varied appearance.

The Baroque pentagonal Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene stands about 0.7 km southeast of Tašov on a wooded rise along the road to Rýdeč and was built in 1707. It is a pentagonal central building with a rectangular sacristy on the north side and has a dome. Its location, construction date and form connect the chapel with the village and landscape scenery southeast of Tašov.

Střekov Castle is a castle in the vicinity of Tašov. The historical site "Theresienstadt concentration camp and ghetto" lies in the vicinity of Tašov. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a church in the vicinity of Tašov. These destinations complement the local rocks, trails and buildings with various historical and sacred sites.
