Horní Krupá: Hotels and Accommodation

A Neo-Gothic chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary was built in the centre of Horní Krupá in 1895. The village’s Protestant church dates from 1847 and was consecrated on 30 October of the same year.

Culture

The Protestant church is a single-nave Neoclassical house of prayer with tall windows whose upper sections feature arched forms, and a triangular gable. The independent Protestant congregation in Horní Krupá was founded in 1867.

Nature and Trails

Near Horní Krupá stands a protected European beech, estimated to be around 300 years old, with a trunk circumference of 620 centimetres. In the surrounding area, Volský vrch reaches 598 metres above sea level; it is the highest point there and offers a view. The Jilemský potok flows through Horní Krupá, and several ponds have been created along it and the Krupský potok.

A blue-marked hiking trail runs through Horní Krupá, continuing from Vepříkov via Jilem and Lysá to Havlíčkův Brod. Below Trčolec, Cycle Route 4153 runs towards Knyk. An educational trail leads from Horní Krupá to the nearby Krátecké lesy west of the village and to the historic Jelení studánka located there; it is equipped with information panels on various natural and historical topics. After the Battle of White Mountain, the Bohemian Brethren gathered there for secret religious services. There is also a natural swimming area on the road to Zálesí, with a Loch Ness figure, a wooden island and a bastion.

Programmes

At the Ekocentrum Chaloupky Horní Krupá, the three-hour programme “Badatelství u potoka / na louce” is a field study carried out at the Krupský potok or in a meadow. The programme “Luční krásky a babice II” takes place in the garden and on the Za Humny educational trail and includes a short botanical study as well as a comparison of a flowering meadow and a meadow used for agriculture.

“Cesta chleba” presents the journey of bread from the field via the mill and bakery to the household. It includes threshing with a flail and baking small loaves in an oven. “Včelí království” explores the life of bees, includes collecting nectar and pollen, and offers a tasting of bee products.
