Větrný Jeníkov: Hotels and accommodations

Větrný Jeníkov Castle originated as a fortress built by Želiv Monastery in the first half of the 13th century. After 1719, it was rebuilt as a Baroque château, and in 1904 it acquired its current Neo-Gothic form.

Culture and history

The Jewish cemetery south of Větrný Jeníkov, by Dolní mlýn above the Jiřínský potok stream, is registered as an immovable cultural monument. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is also registered as an immovable cultural monument.

The Museum of Czechoslovak RAF Airmen is located in Větrný Jeníkov. It presents the legacy of 2,500 Czechoslovak airmen and soldiers who fought in the ranks of the British Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

Dolní mlýn was converted into a smithy. A museum tour led there by prior arrangement; during the tour, the group was shown the water wheel of Dolní mlýn.

The small square Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was built after the mid-18th century and has been protected as a heritage site since 1958.

Landscape

The floodplains of the Jiřínský potok and Úsobský potok streams are designated as legally significant landscape features and serve for natural flood retention.

Orlík is a ruin in the vicinity of Větrný Jeníkov. Březina, Špičák, Přední skála and Vysoká are mountains in the same area.

In the wider regional surroundings of Větrný Jeníkov, Želivský Kláštor is a monastery. Roštejn [Doupě] is a castle there, while Janštejn is a ruin.

A green-marked hiking trail leads from Humpolec to Smrčná.
