Nature and Landscape

The Vílanecké rašeliniště is a nature reserve in the cadastral area of Vílanec. It encompasses a diverse mosaic landscape of aquatic, wetland and meadow biotopes in a valley floor, as well as at marshy spring outlets on the slopes. Rare species such as slender cottongrass (Eriophorum gracile) and Hamatocaulis vernicosus occur there.

Vílanec lies on the western side of the Jihlávka valley. Road I/38 runs through the village on the route from Jihlava to Znojmo.

Routes and Trails

Cycle Route 5215 runs from Popice via Vílanec to Luka nad Jihlavou. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads through the municipality of Vílanec via Sokolíčko near Stonařov and Suchá to Špičák. A green-marked hiking trail runs through the municipality of Vílanec from Čeřínek via Kostelec, Pouště and Hodice.

Culture and History

The Church of St. James the Greater stands on a hill above Vílanec, in a cemetery enclosed by a stone wall. It dates from around 1240 to 1260 and has three altars: a main altar with a painting of St. James, as well as side altars depicting the Descent from the Cross of Jesus Christ, John the Baptist in the Wilderness, and the Madonna with the Christ Child.

The Vílanec Rectory is a free-standing, single-storey Baroque building from the second half of the 17th century. It was built on the site of an older Renaissance building.
