Ústrašín: Hotels and Accommodation

Ústrašín preserves its original location, floor plan and a large part of its medieval masonry in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The church also contains a cast of a historic bronze door knocker in the shape of a lion's head; the original is kept in the National Museum in Prague. The church grounds include a mortuary chapel regarded as a former Late Gothic chapel.

Culture and History

Ústrašín Castle had disappeared by no later than before the middle of the 15th century. Its earliest known owner was Heřman z Ústrašína, documented as the patron of the local church on 27 October 1354. The castle site lies on a northwestern slope of the Na Stráni hill above the right bank of the Hejlovka and has an almost circular layout with a rampart, moat and a central hill approximately 50 metres wide. Its features also include an approximately circular layout, an outer rampart, a moat and a central hill about 50 metres in diameter above the Hejlovka valley. On a wooded hill southeast of the village, the site preserves terrain traces of a watch castle from the mid-14th century. The street-like settlement pattern of Ústrašín is associated with 13th-century colonisation villages.
