Střítež – Churches, Cultural Monuments and Leisure Activities

Střítež lies about two kilometres south of Třebíč, in the direction of Znojmo. St. Mark’s Church is one of the oldest surviving monuments of medieval sacred architecture. As a Romanesque church, it dates from the early 13th century.

St. Mark’s is a single-nave sacred building oriented towards the east, with an altar facing east. The church complex includes a cemetery enclosed by a rubble-stone wall, a wrought-iron double-leaf entrance gate and a mortuary chapel built into the north-western corner of the surrounding wall. Next to St. Mark’s Church in the cemetery stands a Baroque chapel with a mortuary chapel. The Baroque chapel is a cultural monument; it was built in 1648 by Lukáš Georg Cyprianus, a manorial official from Sádek.

In Střítež, a Romanesque chapel stands between houses no. 78 and 43. A bell tower stands on the village square; it is an example of folk architecture from the mid-19th century. In front of the bell tower is a monument to Josef Zvěřina, a theologian from Střítež, a signatory of Charter 77 and a campaigner for freedom of religion. The historic “Libuše” well in front of the municipal office is associated with the legend that Princess Libuše watered her horse there. The Romanesque chapel between the houses adds another site to the sacred buildings in the built-up area of the village. The bell tower on the village square is likewise connected with folk architecture from the mid-19th century.

At the entrance to Střítež, between linden trees, stands a Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1737. Halfway from Střítež to Třebíč, a stone cross stands on the right side of the road; it was erected by the municipality of Střítež in 1876. The flat memorial stone in front of the stone cross is a cultural monument. The route to Třebíč thus contains another historic feature outside the villagescape; the memorial stone standing in front of it is also one of the cultural monuments.

The cycle paths around Střítež pass through forests, along ponds and across the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. There are marked hiking trails in Střítež. Route 1 offers swimming opportunities in the Markovka Reservoir and in Lesní rybník at the foot of the wooded Klučovská hora massif.

Swimming is possible in Hodinovec Pond, while fishing is possible in Mareček Pond. The covered Třebíč-Střítež badminton hall has four courts. The Dvůr Střítež children’s leisure park offers an outdoor playground, live animals and a covered amusement park with a labyrinth, slides, climbing walls for children and trampolines.

The Country Golf Club Střítež offers an 18-hole adventure golf course with Wild West and US-themed elements. Country music evenings are also held at the Country Golf Club Střítež.
