Hotels in Holešov: Castle, Synagogue and Cycle Paths

Holešov combines a self-guided heritage trail with a castle, synagogue, parks and signposted cycling and hiking trails. The town therefore offers specific points of interest for culture, history and outdoor activities.

Trails

The municipal heritage trail in Holešov is marked with a yellow-and-white square and can be completed independently without a guide. Its route can be followed on an interactive town map. A red-marked hiking trail also passes through Holešov.

Culture

The three-nave Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands on the site of a smaller Gothic church dating from around the 14th century. The present church building was completed in 1708.

A guided tour of Holešov Castle includes the Sala terrena with its rich stucco decoration and frescoes, the grand ballroom, the castle chapel and the gentlemen’s room. Other historic halls in the castle serve as the castle gallery and host exhibitions by renowned Czech and international artists.

During a guided tour of Zemanova kovárna, visitors can see the original workshop, the restored clockwork mechanism of the castle tower and a folk-style room from the border region between Haná and Wallachia. Since mid-2012, Zemanova kovárna in Holešov has also housed the exhibition of the Small Blacksmithing Museum.

The Šach Synagogue is a Renaissance building whose core has been preserved to this day. The exhibition “Jews and Moravia” is located in the women’s gallery and the former Jewish school. It provides information about the history of Jews in Moravia, from the earliest references through the Second World War.

Parks and Gardens

In the castle park in Holešov, a unique water system in the shape of Neptune’s trident forms the dominant centrepiece. The so-called Rose Garden in the castle park contains a monument to the composer F. X. Richtr and an observatory.

The castle gardens in Holešov are open free of charge 365 days a year and offer both active and passive leisure opportunities.

Cycling

The 55-kilometre cycle route No. 5033 starts in Kroměříž and runs via Hulín, Pravčice, Količín and Holešov. It reaches Holešov at kilometre 18; the route ends in Hustopeče nad Bečvou.

The 27-kilometre cycle route No. 5036 starts in Holešov and branches off from cycle route No. 5033 at Holajka. It runs via Přílepy, Lukoveček, Fryšták, Lešná, Štípa, Hvozdná and Slušovice and ends in Dešná, where it connects to long-distance cycle route No. 46. Route No. 5036 runs along asphalt paths for its entire length, mostly on Class III roads, and is suitable for all types of bicycles.

Events

The 14th Holešovská Regata is a popular music festival for the whole family. It takes place on 19 and 20 June 2026 in the gardens of Holešov Castle and offers music as well as a varied accompanying programme for visitors of all ages.
