Zdounky combines distinctive architectural history with a network of local routes through the Chřiby Hills. The town is home to Zdounky Castle and the Church of the Holy Trinity. The route network connects Kroměříž, Zdounky, Kostelany, Kvasice and municipalities within this area.

Culture

Zdounky Castle is registered as an immovable cultural monument under registration number 37881/7-6188. The building has four wings; at its southwest corner, the former tower of the original fortress projects outward. All rooms on the ground floor have Baroque vaulted ceilings. The oldest southern section also contains an original chapel with a Renaissance vault. Thus, the later Baroque interior design and an older part of the complex stand directly alongside each other in a single building.

Another historic site in the town is the Church of the Holy Trinity. It is originally Gothic and was first mentioned in 1366. The church tower was extended in 1570. The church stands on a steep slope near the town centre, within an enclosed precinct, making its architectural setting as prominent as its long history. The Church of the Holy Trinity also contains a figurative and heraldic Renaissance stone tombstone for Jan Jiří Zoubek ze Zdětína. This work is considered a unique example in Moravia and adds an exceptional stone testament to the Renaissance to the architecture.

Hiking

For the trails around Zdounky, Stezky severními Chřiby is of central importance. This is a network of local tourist routes connecting Kroměříž, Zdounky, Kostelany, Kvasice and municipalities within this area. The routes are intended primarily for hiking; most can also be ridden by mountain bike. This means that the trail landscape is not limited to a single mode of transport, while its original purpose as a hiking trail network remains intact.

One route runs along two ridges and offers expansive views of Kroměříž and the surrounding area, the Hostýnské vrchy and, above all, the Chřiby Hills. Another route, 13.6 km long, passes through Zdounky, Nětčice, Šelešovice and Soběsuky. These places mark the course of this trail, while the ridge route opens up views across several landscape areas. Length, route and views therefore differ as distinct features within the local route network.

Nature

The Kamenec nature monument features warm slopes with juniper growth and thermophilous flora. Numerous thermophilous insect species live within the nature monument and its surroundings. The presence of the protected European mantis is particularly noteworthy. The warm slopes, juniper and thermophilous vegetation shape the insects’ habitat.
