Dřínov – Castle, Chapel and Cycle Path
In its present form, Dřínov Castle combines traces of several periods: the building comprises three wings with a tower and a chapel, while the courtyard is enclosed by an entrance tower and a gate wing. For your viewing, you can therefore switch between the complex as a whole, individual structural elements and the interiors.
History and Fortification
The origins of Dřínov Castle lie in a fortress built by Jakub ze Dřínového towards the end of the 14th century, which was first mentioned in writing in 1414. The former fortress has left behind the cellar, the lower part of the castle tower and masonry in the foundations of further castle buildings. A step-by-step examination can begin with the period of its construction and lead to these preserved structural elements. The architectural elements do not all represent the same period: the fortress origins date to the end of the 14th century, the first written mention to 1414 and the ceiling painting to 1733. This makes it possible to distinguish chronologically between the origins, the historical record and the later decoration.
Castle Park Cultural Monument
The Dřínov Castle Park is part of the complex. It is registered as a cultural monument in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic under registration number 44912/7-5926.
The Chapel of Saint Catherine
The castle chapel of Saint Catherine received a Baroque ceiling painting in 1733. At the same time, it is undergoing long-term reconstruction; interesting sculptural furnishings can be seen in its niches. With this part of the building, you can focus on two aspects: the clearly dated ceiling painting and the structural condition resulting from the long-term reconstruction.
Guided Tours of the Castle and Cellars
Guided tours are regularly held at the castle; they can be booked with the castle owner. During a tour, visitors are guided through Dřínov Castle and its cellar rooms. On the tour, the areas being viewed change from the castle building to the cellar rooms.
Getting There and Cycle Path
Dřínov is served by bus connections. From road II/428 in the direction of Věžek, the village can be reached via a turn-off near the settlement of Srnov. In addition, a cycle route is designated in Dřínov. Those planning their journey can compare the bus connection, road access and designated cycle route as different points of reference. The designated cycle route, on the other hand, belongs to the local cycling infrastructure.
View over the Village
The castle tower offers a view over Dřínov and the surrounding area.
When comparing hotels in Dřínov, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be compared according to your own travel plan.
