Hotels in Bílovice: History and Trails
Bílovice is marked by clearly tangible traces of its history. These include Hrad u Bílovic, whose surviving fortifications consist of two ramparts and ditches. The site itself is a prehistoric fortified settlement on a prominent, oval peninsula above the Romže stream.
Culture
The history of the village dates back at least to the 13th century, when Bílovice was already settled and became an episcopal fief. The Church of St. John the Baptist also reflects several periods: it was built approximately in the second half of the 17th century on the site of a Gothic place of worship that had already been mentioned in 1366. The church is located in the centre of Bílovice. At the main crossroads there is also a sculptural group depicting Saints John of Nepomuk, Vendelín and Antonín.
Other architectural and artistic landmarks in the village include the small Baroque chateau Zámek Bílovice. The cemetery contains a continuous fresco cycle by J. Kohler. Another distinctive historical feature is the founding of the first voluntary fire brigade association in Moravia in Bílovice. The painter Josef Mánes stayed in the village from 1854 to 1856 and created the painting Verunka Čudová there.
North of Bílovice, a wayside cross stands on the road to Topolná. This extends the series of religious and cultural-historical testimonies beyond the village centre, without diminishing the individual significance of each location.
Trails
The signposted routes are also clearly described. The cycle paths from Bílovice run along field roads, are signposted and connected to the main cycle routes. For hiking, there is the educational trail “Along the Border of Nine Cadastres”. It is 9 km long, marked with a green hiking trail symbol and leads through predominantly flat, easy terrain. More than ten information boards stand along the educational trail; there are also rest areas with seating.
