Ostrožská Lhota: Culture, Nature and Wine Cycling Trails

At the Ostrožská Lhota Archaeological Museum, the exhibition ranges from finds dating from the Palaeolithic to the modern era. It also features replicas of prehistoric vessels, a model of the settlement in 1827, Bronze Age jewellery and pruning knives. Under the direction of archaeologist Mgr. Tomáš Zeman, Ph.D., the museum offers archaeological excursions for groups and schools.

Another cultural site is the Lidové muzeum in the Lidový domek Háječek, House No. 143. The building contains a historic kitchen and living quarters with period furnishings. Exhibits include wooden furniture, butter-making equipment, religious images and children's toys more than 100 years old. Visits take place from the end of April to the end of September on Sundays from 14:00 to 17:00; by prior arrangement, visits are possible year-round. The municipal museum, with its archaeological finds, is open from April to October on Sundays from 13:00 to 18:00.

The townscape also includes several religious monuments. The Church of St James the Elder in Ostrožská Lhota was built in 1908 in the late Baroque style. At an intersection in the centre stands a stone statue of St John the Baptist dating from 1747. Outside the town, on Antonínský kopec between Ostrožská Lhota and Blatnice pod Svatým Antonínkem, lies Svatý Antonínek, an important Roman Catholic Baroque pilgrimage chapel dating from the 17th century.

Ostrožská Lhota lies on the edge of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. The Okluky stream flows through the town and belongs to the Morava River basin. The countryside can also be explored on foot: a hike can begin at the car park by the municipal office in Ostrožská Lhota, pass the Church of St James the Elder and then continue through the fields outside the town.

For cyclists, two important wine cycling trails cross in Ostrožská Lhota: the Uherskohradišťská Cycling Trail and the Strážnická Cycling Trail. On foot, a 5 km hike leads from Ostrožská Lhota to the Svatý Antonínek pilgrimage site. Alongside routes through the fields, visitors can therefore enjoy a regional cycling connection and a clearly defined hiking destination.

The Ženáčské hody festival has been held in Ostrožská Lhota every other year in even-numbered years since 2006. The Slovácké hody s právem festival takes place every odd-numbered year and was first celebrated there in 1956; at one documented edition, it was held for the 29th time.
