Dolní Němčí: Church, Mill and Cycling Trails

Dolní Němčí lies at the foot of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. Dolní Němčí has a network of cycling trails with connections to the Bílé Karpaty, Luhačovice and the Baťa Canal. Cycle Route 5052 runs via Hradčovice, Dolní Němčí, Slavkov and Horní Němčí to Velká Javořina. The various destinations connected by the network and the designated course of Route 5052 can be incorporated separately into your daily itinerary.

The neo-Gothic parish church “kostel sv. Filipa a Jakuba” was built between 1870 and 1873. Three named bells hang in the church tower: Svatý Prokop from 1733, Svatý Josef from 1949 and Panna Maria from 1954. The kostel sv. Filipa a Jakuba church is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic, the ÚSKP ČR.

The Chapel of sv. Anny on the field path to Blatnice dates from 1830 and continues to serve religious processions every year. The statue of sv. Florián dates from 1777 and is also listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. In 1970, it was moved to the park by the church.

The Muzeum Na Mlýně houses historical exhibits in the original living quarters of the former mill. In the former mill building, dating from the 18th century, an archaeological exhibition from the collections of Milan Daněk, who came from Dolní Němčí, was established in 2020.

Baking bread in a stone oven is a tradition in Dolní Němčí. The Dožínky in Dolní Němčí take place once every four years in mid-August. The Hody s právem in Dolní Němčí were held for the first time in 1968 and take place every two years; they end with a Sunday Mass in the kostel sv. Filipa a Jakuba church. The two festival formats differ in their timing.

As part of “Vaření trnek”, the Muzeum Na Mlýně hosts a folkloric afternoon with tastings at its site in Dolní Němčí. Traditionally, plum butter, or Povidla, is cooked there in a cauldron.

The Lucké hledačky were a local riddle-based activity about the secrets of Lucké Pole and why a road in Dolní Němčí once subsided. The Lucká hledačka comprised two questing routes that reached Dolní Němčí: Route A ran from Horní Němčí via Slavkov to Dolní Němčí, while Route B ran from Hluk to Dolní Němčí.
