Hotels in Uherský Ostroh: Castle, historic centre and the Morava

Uherský Ostroh showcases its history in several notable places: at the castle, in the historic centre, in exhibitions and along the Morava waterway. The combination of medieval traces, Renaissance architecture, the town’s history and a landing stage shapes the different aspects of the town.

Culture

Zámek Uherský Ostroh was originally a medieval fortress and was converted into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century. A residential tower from the 13th century, belonging to the original fortress, has been preserved and forms the core of Zámek Uherský Ostroh. The courtyard is surrounded by arcades and gives the castle its characteristic architectural form.

The historical tour leads through the oldest rooms of the castle and up into the castle tower, Zámecká věž. From there, visitors can enjoy a view over the entire Ostrožsko region. The castle tower also houses an exhibition about Zdeněk Galuška, an artist born in Uherský Ostroh. The castle thus brings together preserved structural elements, guided interiors, the tower and a biographical connection to the town.

History

The Zámecká galerie organises several exhibitions every year. Also located in the historic part of Uherský Ostroh, near the castle, is the Moto veterán muzeum, housed in the functionalist Adler commercial and residential building. The museum presents exhibitions on motoring, trade, various occupations and crafts.

The historic centre of Uherský Ostroh was declared an urban heritage conservation zone in 1990. This area includes the triangular square Náměstí Sv. Ondřeje, which is lined along its edges with representative town houses. The parish church of sv. Ondřeje was built between 1751 and 1758. The square, town houses and church therefore represent another historical aspect of the town alongside the castle.

Family

In the basement of Zámek Uherský Ostroh are several rooms designed as an interactive game for children and adults. The unique exhibition in the basement of Zámek Uherský Ostroh offers a visit to the legendary Atlantis. The new exhibition in the basement of Zámek Uherský Ostroh was opened to the public on 1 May 2015.

Water

At Přístaviště Uherský Ostroh, watercraft can moor during the day and overnight. The landing stage is located on the right bank of the Morava at kilometre 22.2 of the waterway. Both features clearly define the location: it is a landing stage on the Morava with a specified position within the waterway and the option of mooring during the day and overnight.

When comparing hotels in Uherský Ostroh, you can first check the exact location, type of accommodation and possible occupancy on the respective offer page.
