Vlachovice: Hotels, Nature and Traditional Culture

Most of the cadastral area of Vlachovice lies in the northernmost part of the CHKO Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area.

Nature

A large part of the land in Vlachovice has traditionally been used as natural pastures and meadows for sheep, cattle and horses.

Culture

The old farmhouse in Vlachovice houses the Museum of Folk Culture and Traditions of the Vlachovsko region. It displays unique ceramic vessels from the Ďulův kopec archaeological site.

The Bednářské muzeum in Vlachovice displays traditional tools and products of the cooperage trade, including barrels, tubs, vats and planters. By prior arrangement, the museum offers an insight into the cooper's workshop. The prior arrangement concerns access to the workshop, while the aforementioned tools and products describe the museum's exhibits.

The remains of a water castle are located on the southern edge of Vlachovice. The “Putování po vlachovských sušírnách” event traditionally takes place on the first Saturday in September.

Trails

The educational trail to the fruit drying houses begins and ends in Vlachovice, is 15 km long and can be shortened. It connects eight traditional fruit drying houses, four of which are still in operation. The trail also passes through picturesque corners of the White Carpathians and is suitable for cycling. As a circular route, it connects the starting point in Vlachovice with the same place as its endpoint. The possibility of shortening the 15-kilometre route supplements the full route description with a shorter option. In terms of content, the route remains focused on the fruit drying houses and the White Carpathians: eight traditional buildings form part of the connection, four of which are still in use. Thus, historic architectural forms and present-day processing do not stand separately alongside one another but appear within the same route description. The additional suitability for cycling is explicitly stated for this educational trail; it must be distinguished from the separately described Cycle Route 5058.

The official Cycle Route 5058 runs from Slavičín via Vlachovice towards Vlachova Lhota.

Traditions

The Sušírna sv. Františka operates year-round. Herbs and fruit are dried there; Květomluva uses them to make teas, syrups and herbal bath mixtures. The processing is not limited to a single product group: both herbs and fruit are mentioned as source materials, while Květomluva makes three different products from them.

Leisure

Vlachovice outdoor swimming pool has a large pool and a small pool. The swimming pool complex includes a sand volleyball court.
