Nature
The Egerbakta peat bog lakes were placed under protection in 1978. The “Baktató tanösvény” educational trail presents the flora and fauna of the Egerbakta peat bog depressions, the history of research into them and hypotheses about their formation, as well as the nature conservation values of the surrounding Natura 2000 area.
The Natura 2000 area “Egerbakta–Bátor környéki erdők” refers to the forests in the vicinity of Egerbakta and Bátor.
Trails
The freely accessible educational trail presenting the peat bog lakes begins in front of the house at Tóvölgy u. 2 in Egerbakta. The Egerbakta peat bog lakes are freely accessible and can be reached from the village in approximately 20 minutes on foot.
All three lakes can be circumnavigated on the “Baktató tanösvény” educational trail. The third lake, Felső-tó, is visible, while the first two lakes are heavily overgrown with vegetation.
Öregtölgy is an estimated 700-year-old tree beside a hiking trail leading to the peat bog lakes, approximately 20 minutes’ walk from the village. It is just under 25 metres tall and has a diameter at breast height of 625 cm.
The Egerbakta Piros-túra begins in Egerbakta in the Heves-Borsod Hills and reaches the Bükk Mountains after 10 km at Eger-Almár.
Culture
Construction of the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Egerbakta began in 1773. Rococo stone vases, created in 1775 by the Eger sculptor Antal Steinhauser, are located at its gable corners.
The vicarage below the church hill is a listed building and a detached or street-fronted, single-storey residential building from the late 18th century.
