The Mihai Buculei sculpture ensemble stands on Dealul Groșilor near Buteni. It comprises five monumental limestone works created between 1980 and 1984. The works are named “Fereastră către Dorul Iancului,” “Masa pentru amintirea strămoșilor,” “Sanctuar,” “Ultimul căzut” and “Fântâna Iancului.”

The ensemble is included in the list of protected art monuments, monuments and memorial ensembles and designated as a protected area of national importance under Law 5/2000. The different dates make several historical layers legible instead of limiting the cultural connection to a single era.

In 1728, a wooden church dedicated to “Bunavestire” was consecrated in Buteni. The present-day church in Buteni, built between 1927 and 1929 according to plans by the architect Conrad Richter from Timișoara, contains an iconostasis carved by Ioan Novacovici in 1809. The iconostasis was later transferred from the older church to this place of worship. Four school choirs were first documented in Buteni on December 20, 1881.

Crafts and Customs
