Negreni: Nature, Markets and Culture on the Crișul Repede
Negreni lies on the right bank of the Crișul Repede River, between the Vlădeasa Mountains south of the Crișul Repede Valley and the Plopiș and Meseș Mountains north of the same valley.
Nature and Landscape
The Defileul Crișului Repede gorge is of botanical, zoological and geological importance. Hiking is possible at Dealul Paltiniș; Măgura-Piatra Craiului also offers this opportunity. For your trip planning, you can consider nature and hiking as different areas of focus. The two types of activity can be compared separately.
Culture and History
Cetatea Prilogului is an archaeological and historical site where Bronze Age finds have been discovered. The Vulturul Brâncovenesc monument in Bucea commemorates those who fell in the two world wars, as well as people who died in Romania’s communist prisons. The Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Negreni was built between 1846 and 1856. It has a clock donated by Metropolitan Andrei Șaguna. Archaeology, commemoration and church construction represent different historical forms. The chronological references range from the Bronze Age through the world wars and the period of the communist prisons to the 19th century.
Markets and Customs
The annual autumn market in Negreni, also known as Târgul de la Fechetău, takes place over several days. Târgul de la Fechetău offers antiques, works of art and furniture; clothing, shoes and household goods are also available, along with fruit and vegetables directly from producers. Târgul de vară de la Negreni takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the second week of June. Târgul Coaselor marks the beginning of the mowing season. The Christmas custom of Colindatul is still practiced in the municipality of Negreni: children aged 9 to 16 go around with the star, while young men aged 17 to 22 perform the Corinda. You can compare the dates by season, event duration and days of the week. The events encompass individual days, several-day events and a seasonal custom. This provides various points of reference for trip planning.
Transport and Practical Planning
The main transport links in the municipality of Negreni include the DN 1/E60 national road and the railway line between Oradea, Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest and Constanța. Rail access to Negreni is via the Negreni railway stop. For your journey, road and rail can be compared as different means of transport. You can also consider the different transport routes separately when planning.
In Prelucele stands Moara Hucului, which was built in 1940 and is now a recreational site. The year of construction and its current status represent two chronological levels.
