Vrancea: Hotels and accommodations

The Putna-Vrancea Nature Park protects characteristic landscape complexes and offers the public opportunities for recreation and tourism. Covering 38,204 hectares, it encompasses 41.32 % of the mountainous area of Vrancea County.

Nature and landscape

The European long-distance hiking trail E8 runs through the Vrancea Mountains for 67 kilometres. Măgura Odobeşti, a mountain, is located in the vicinity of Vrancea. The wider regional area also includes the peaks of Titila and Preluncu, as well as Dealul Odobeşti hill.

The trail through the Cheile Tișiței nature reserve is considered one of the main tourist attractions in the Vrancea Mountains and leads seven kilometres upstream through the protected area. Cascada Putnei is a national protected area in Vrancea County, within the administrative territory of the municipality of Tulnici, near the village of Lepșa. It forms a 76-metre-long waterfall with a vertical drop of 14 metres; the water collects in a lake approximately 12 metres deep.

Lacul Negru comprises an active peat bog complex with sundews, salamanders and alpine newts. It lies in the Năruja basin at an elevation of 1,250 metres, covers more than one hectare and reaches a maximum depth of 7.5 metres. The Focul Viu protected area is a geological site where natural gas rises through cracks in the Earth's crust and ignites into flames 30 to 50 centimetres high.

Trails and directions

Access to the Cheile Tișiței protected area is signposted from the DN2D between Focșani and Târgu Secuiesc, followed by approximately 1.3 kilometres of gravel road. The marked trail to Lacul Negru leads via the DJ205D and then for approximately 16 kilometres along a forest road through the Năruja Valley; allow approximately 8 to 10 hours for the round trip.

Cascada Putnei is designated as a sustainable-use zone within Putna-Vrancea Nature Park; visitors should observe the boundaries and information signs.

Culture and wine

The Muzeul Țării Vrancei de la Vidra comprises five rooms featuring traditional carpets from the valleys of Putna, Zăbala and Năruja, as well as folk costumes from Vrancea. The Mărășești Mausoleum preserves the mortal remains of 5,073 soldiers and officers in 154 individual crypts and nine communal crypts.

The main route of the Drumul Vinului Vrancea runs from Focșani via Odobești and Tifești to Panciu. Crama Pandora offers a guided cellar tour covering the winemaking process from grape to bottle, the wine cellar, the technologies used and the terroir of Cotești. Crama Pandora also offers a basic wine tasting with a guided cellar tour and three wines from the SECRETS range: Șarbă, Rose and Fetească Neagră.

The Church of Saint George is a church in the wider regional area of Vrancea. The Biserica Ortodoxă Ploştina and the Biserica Ortodoxă Coza are also located in this wider regional area; both are Orthodox churches.
