Horná Ždaňa – Hotels, Landscape and Cultural Monuments

Culture

The church in Horná Ždaňa was built by the landowner Andrej Dóczy towards the end of the 16th century and expanded in 1720. The church tower contains bells dating from 1659, 1720 and 1923.

The SNP Monument stands in front of the municipal office in Horná Ždaňa. It is a cultural monument of historical and artistic significance. The Mlynská usadlosť is considered a work of 20th-century folk architecture and was rebuilt in the 1940s. As a water mill and cultural monument, it is listed under ÚZPF identification number 10494.

During Stavanie mája 2026, young men in Horná Ždaňa put up a maypole for the local girls. The municipality presented the event as the preservation of the traditions and customs of their ancestors.

Getting Around

A signposted cycling route leads from Žiar nad Hronom via Dolná Trnávka, Dolná Ždaňa and Horná Ždaňa to Prochot. Its length is approximately 16 km, plus the return journey. The approximate route length is therefore also part of the route description, as is the stated return journey.
