Trnavá Hora – Culture, Hiking Trails and Hotels

Trnavá Hora lies on the southern slope of the Kremnica Mountains. The municipality also extends into both the Kremnica Mountains and the Štiavnica Mountains: Kľačany lies in the eastern part of the Kremnica Mountains, while Jalná is situated on the northern slopes of the Štiavnica Mountains in a narrow valley of the Hron. Thus, different landscape areas belong to the same municipality, whose local features extend from mountain locations to the Hron valley.

Nature and Trails

The yellow-and-red-marked Budiná hiking trail begins at the bus stop near the parish office in Trnavá Hora. It runs through Kľačany to a forest hut. There, the trail turns sharply towards the Budiná spring, continues through the Hrabíky valley to the Snoža spring, and then descends to the trail junction near Jastrabský mlyn. Cyclists are also recommended to take the route through the Kľačianska Valley.

The Hron is also part of Trnavá Hora’s landscape. The river flows through the municipality and offers water sports enthusiasts the opportunity to travel along it during the summer months.

Culture

The Parish Church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Trnavá Hora dates from 1775 and was built in the Baroque-Classical style. It is listed as a cultural monument. In Jalná, the wooden nativity scene exhibition has been on display at the cultural centre since 23 December 2007.

At the beginning of Trnavá Hora’s upper section, Námestíčko Mekyho Žbirku occupies a small area below the wall of his father’s birthplace. The square is marked by a bust of Miroslav “Miro” Žbirka, created by Mgr. Art. Svetozár Ilavský. Below it is a symbolic Bratislava bench.

In Kľačany, the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus features a wall decoration by Hanula. The SNP monument there also commemorates Peter Kubík, an Interbrigadist and commander of the 1st Battalion of Captain Ján Nálepka’s partisan brigade. Peter Kubík fell on 10 October 1944 while fighting the German occupying forces.
