Sklené Teplice: Thermal Springs, Spa Park and Teplica Castle

Sklené Teplice is located in the northwestern part of the Štiavnické vrchy in the valley of the Teplá stream. There are 14 thermal springs in Sklené Teplice. The thermal springs in Sklené Teplice have a water temperature of 28 to 53 °C.

Kúpele Sklené Teplice is one of the oldest spa resorts in Slovakia. Parenica is a naturally formed cave steam bath with hyperthermal water at 42 °C and is considered a Slovak and European rarity. The water in the Parenica cave bath comes directly from a thermal spring.

Kúpeľ Márie Terézie is a thermal pool designed in the antique style, with a stained-glass section in the roof. The Banský kúpeľ contains a replica of Botticelli’s fresco “The Birth of Venus”. The Termálne kúpalisko Sklené Teplice thermal bath complex includes a children’s pool with a water temperature of 32 °C.

Alkaline-gypsum mineral springs with a cave bath in Sklené Teplice have been documented since the 16th century. The Classicist Church of St Luke in Sklené Teplice was built between 1807 and 1811. The Kursalon was built between 1837 and 1839 as a Classicist spa pavilion with a circular floor plan. The historic building of the Kursalon Café serves coffee, soft drinks and cakes from an in-house bakery.

The spa park in Sklené Teplice stretches along the valley and gradually merges into a woodland park. The park offers visitors easy walks in pleasant surroundings. The hike to Teplica Castle is considered a moderately difficult route of approximately 4.7 kilometres and takes about two hours. The approximate duration of two hours and the length of 4.7 kilometres provide concrete reference points for personal day planning. The remains of Teplica Castle lie in the hills above Sklené Teplice and date from the 14th century.

The fifth stage of the Barborská cesta connects Sklené Teplice with Banská Štiavnica and is 12.8 kilometres long. Hliník nad Hronom railway station is 8 km from Sklené Teplice.
