Slaská lies below the Kremnica Mountains. In the historic center, a square of the widened street type oriented in a north-south direction forms the spatial center. The Church of Saint Gall, historic granaries and distinctive architectural details give the place a clearly recognizable cultural profile.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Gall was built in the Gothic style in the 15th century and remodeled in the Renaissance style in the 16th century; its Renaissance character dates from the end of the 15th century. Together with its fortification, it is registered as an immovable national cultural monument under number 1264/1 in the central monument register. The church tower, baptismal font and church fortification date from 1654. It stands in the southwest of Slaská on a slight elevation and continues to be used for its religious purpose. At the same time, the church dominates a hill above Slaská; the former parish house is located below it.

Northeast above Slaská there is a chapel. About 20 cast-iron crosses stand in the cemetery. A wooden cross stands by house number 57, and Slaská also has a masonry wayside shrine. Together with the church, these small religious and memorial features are among the specific elements found at various locations throughout the village.

The historic architectural features of Slaská include connected two-story granaries on plots 422, 423, 433 and 434. A freestanding two-story granary is located on plot 15. The northern wooden gable of house number 162 has a decorative molding with carved wing-like elements. The two-story house numbered 180–181 displays features of a German stone house; its southern section has stucco elements. The group of houses numbered 190, 191, 192, 193 and 198 displays artistic and architectural features, including gables, decorative elements, façade articulation, a niche and distinctive window forms.

Geographical Location

The cadastral area of Slaská ranges from 375 to 641 meters above sea level. From Slaská, access routes lead north and south to Kremnica and to other municipalities in the valley of the Kremnický potok. Slaská thus lies on the edge of the Kremnica Mountains; access routes lead from here into the valley of the Kremnický potok.

Hiking Trails

A marked hiking trail leads from Kopernica via Slaská to Jazierko Slobodné. The Hauerland Hike from Kremnica to Handlová also runs via Jarabica, Bernardov, Slaská, Kosorín, Janova Lehota, Peklo, Triesky and the saddle below Vysoká. The route is 39 km long, has 1,672 meters of ascent and 1,791 meters of descent, has a medium difficulty level – level 3 on a five-level hiking scale – and is designated as a two-day route.

Another 38.5 km circular route leads from Kremnica via Kremnické Bane, Kunešov, Slaská, Kopernica and Lúčky back to Kremnica; it has 618 meters of elevation gain. Upon entering Slaská, the Hauerland hiking trail follows a section of paved roads and is marked there as a tourist trail.
