Bzenica combines the Andrej Kmeť Trail with memorial and cultural sites. The trail begins in the village and leads to Prenčov; the church, memorial sites, folklore, amateur theatre, and an archaeological site on Sobotište Hill add their own historical themes to the area’s local connections.

Nature and hiking

The Andrej Kmeť Trail runs through the Štiavnické vrchy mountains. It is marked in blue and is 40.9 kilometres long.

Culture and history

The Church of St. Elizabeth was built in 1939 on the site of an older church dating from the 13th century. It preserves furnishings from the former church dating from the late 19th century.

Andrej Kmeť is also commemorated at several locations in Bzenica. A monument to him was unveiled in the centre of Bzenica in 1993. His birthplace in Bzenica was declared a cultural monument in 1963.

The Andrej Kmeť Memorial Room is located in the former school building and presents an exhibition about his life and work. Visiting the memorial room requires prior registration with the municipal office.

Traditions and performances

The Bzenica folklore group was founded in 1975. Since 1991, its members have regularly commemorated Andrej Kmeť. At the Andrej Kmeť Cultural Centre in Bzenica, the group performs traditional programmes such as “Svadba”, “Odchod na žatvu”, and “Rok na dedine”. The programme titles refer to a wedding, setting off for the harvest, and a year in the village; each gives the three performances its own thematic focus.

Bzenica’s cultural heritage also includes an amateur theatre tradition dating back to 1923. A Celtic burial ground was found on Sobotište Hill in the municipality of Bzenica. Another memorial to an individual is the 1959 memorial plaque with a bust of J. Pospíšil.

Accommodation

If you are considering a hotel, first check the exact location description and type of accommodation on the relevant offer page. Make sure that the desired number of guests is explicitly stated and note which services are included in the price. You should also pay attention to price components listed separately, as well as the conditions for booking, changes, and cancellation. Directly comparing these points makes it easier to assess different hotel offers. Also check the period and occupancy to which the stated conditions apply. On the offer page, it is also worth checking whether the occupancy applies to the entire desired period and whether minimum stays or different rules for individual nights are specified. Check whether taxes, fees, or other costs are listed separately and whether separate conditions apply to children or additional guests, if this is stated on the page. For changes and cancellations, note the deadlines, any possible fees, and the form in which notice must be given. This makes it possible to compare the stated conditions of different hotel offers based on the same criteria.
