Štiavnické Bane can be explored through its paths, water and buildings. Several educational trails make mining and water management comprehensible, while the church, monastery complex and Calvary shape the historical character of the village.

Nature and Water

The Piargsky chodník is a 5.3 km educational trail with nine information panels. It presents the area's most significant mining structures, including shafts and adits, as well as ore processing. In addition, the Piargsky vodohospodársky systém educational trail, with 16 stations, explains the uniqueness of the mining water management system in one part of the Piarg group of reservoirs.

The Piargsky water management educational trail offers two clearly differentiated options: the long option measures 15,110 m and has an elevation difference of 100 m, while the short option measures 10,350 m with an elevation difference of 85 m. Thus, the length and elevation profile are already presented differently in the route description.

With five stations, the Ökológia piargskych tajchov educational trail focuses on the biological environment and the related water quality of selected reservoirs. Its starting point is at the main dam of the Veľká Richňava reservoir. On foot, the trail can be completed in two to three hours.

Mining and History

The Veľká Windšachtská reservoir is also directly connected with the history of the region. It was built between 1712 and 1715 and is one of the first four reservoirs in the area of present-day Štiavnické Bane. The reservoir currently serves recreational purposes.

Veľká Windšachtská is also an inseparable part of the unique Banská Štiavnica water management system. This system has been preserved locally in authentic form and in its original extent; local impairment or damage is only minor.

The Štiavnické Bane heritage conservation area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Historic Town of Banská Štiavnica and the Technical Monuments in its Vicinity”. This World Heritage Site also includes the heritage conservation area of Banská Štiavnica and the protected historic zone of Hodruša-Hámre. The municipal territory of Štiavnické Bane belongs wholly or partly to the core zone of the Banská Štiavnica Geopark.

Culture

The Church of St. Joseph and its associated monastery complex were built in Vindšachta between 1735 and 1754. The church is a single-nave Baroque building with a projecting tower. A two-storey monastery building adjoins its north side.

Its furnishings include an organ built in 1754. Its builder was probably the renowned organ builder Martin Podkonický. This connects the construction history of the church with a specific instrument and a named, though not attributed with absolute certainty, creator.

Another sacred landmark is the Štiavnické Bane–Horná Roveň Calvary. It has six stations dating from 1754 and leads to a crucifixion group dating from 1730.

Other Places

Other places in the same broader destination are Banska Bela, Ilija, Vysoká, Dekýš, Svätý Anton, Banský Studenec, Podhorie and Kozelník.
