Nature

The Gajdošovo Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral territory of Banský Studenec. The meadow biotopes there are home to protected plant species. The broader landscape also includes the Banskoštiavnický Geopark, whose municipalities include Banský Studenec.

The Kysihýbel Arboretum offers a distinct natural-history aspect. It is a protected forestry experimental area containing stands of fast-growing non-native tree species. A total of 282 tree species were planted there, mainly from North America. Thus, Banský Studenec is home to both protected meadow biotopes and a forestry experimental area with various tree species.

Water and Paths

Today, the Kolpašské Lakes are used primarily for fishing, especially the smaller lakes, while the larger lakes are mainly used for summer recreation. The Kolpašské Lakes are freely accessible to the public. The path between Veľké Kolpašské tajch and Malé Kolpašské tajch has been renovated and illuminated.

The Barborská cesta also connects several specific points: it leads from Svätý Anton to Banský Studenec and the Kolpašské Lake. In Banský Studenec, the cycling route of the Barborská cesta goes around Veľké Kolpašské jazero along the dam.

Culture

Kolpašské malé jazero is listed as a national cultural monument. A wooden bell tower dating from the 1850s stands by the Kostol Premenenia Pána church and is also a national cultural monument. The Baroque Kostol Premenenia Pána church was built in 1743–1745 and has original Baroque interior furnishings. This historic ensemble is complemented by the sv. Jána Nepomuckého chapel, built in 1943.

Kysihýbel is also home to an aqueduct built around 1870. It was constructed during the building of the narrow-gauge railway from Hronská Breznica to Štiavnica.

On the Way

The Kysihýbel educational trail begins in Banský Studenec at the western edge of the Kysihýbel Arboretum. It is self-guided, circular and accessible year-round. The underground Barlangy quarry, also called Diery, is located along this educational trail.

For planned visits to the Lesnícke arborétum Kysihýbeľ, advance notification is required to the head of the relevant department of the Forestry Research Institute in Zvolen or to the institute’s research station in Banská Štiavnica.
