Svätý Anton – Manor House, Park and Štiavnické vrchy

The manor house of Svätý Anton and the adjacent park have been national cultural monuments and open to the public since 1985. The manor house park is a baroque landscape park with landscaped terraces, flowerbeds, shrubs, valuable trees, artificial ponds and a grotto; beyond this, it transitions into a freely designed woodland park.

Culture

The manor house of Svätý Anton was built in 1744 on the site of an older castle. This castle had been built for Andrej Koháry, the head of the Hont County administration and an imperial general. The single-nave Church of Saint Anthony the Hermit in Svätý Anton was built in 1755 and houses a wooden Madonna as well as an altarpiece depicting the Nativity, attributed to Master MS. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk in Svätý Anton is a baroque building from 1755 to 1758 with a decorative Rococo grille and the coat of arms of the Koháry family. The Poľovnícka expozícia features animal dioramas, a hunting room and hunting weapons; it also covers falconry and fishing.

The former Mýtnica served as a toll and relay station from before the mid-14th century; since its reconstruction in the 1950s, it has been used for cultural and social events. Dni sv. Huberta are nationwide Slovak hunting celebrations featuring a historical re-enactment. The 34th edition lasted two days and took place in the historic grounds of the manor house of Svätý Anton.
